Leonard Gelman, MD, CMD, is a practicing physician in Capital District area of New York State. He has been and continues to be in private practice since 1986 in Ballston Spa. Dr. Gelman holds current Board Certification in Family Practice, Geriatrics and Hospice and Palliative Medicine and holds hospital privileges at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. Dr. Gelman has been involved with multiple nursing homes as medical director and as an attending physician for over 30 years. He has been involved with local and national medical director associations for many years. Dr. Gelman has held many positions at the national Society for Post Acute and Long Term Care Medicine in education, public policy and board leadership. Dr. Gelman was recently President of the Society in 2014-2015. He has helped to develop and teach the Society’s Certified Medical Director course in order to certify physician medical directors in medical direction in the post acute and long term care realm. He has lectured over the past 25 years at national and state meetings of physicians and medical directors on medical practice and medical direction in post acute care. Dr. Gelman has worked on projects for the New York State Department of Health to Improve Health Outcomes and Quality of Life for Nursing Home Residents and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) including the project to reduce unnecessary hospitalizations. He is currently Medical Director at Washington Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare and Granville Center for Healthcare for the Centers organization.
