Louis Mudannayake, MD, CMD is medical Director of Cobble Hill Health Center a 360 bed SNF in Brooklyn, New York. His work on antipsychotic reduction in SNfs began summer of 2005. In 2007 he was interviewed in depth by the Wall Street Journal. This culminated in two front page articles, the second of which entitled Nursing Homes Struggle to kick Drug Habit featured Dr. Mudannayake’s work on SNF antipsychotic reduction in Brooklyn. As a result of these articles Senator Charles Grassley requested an investigation by Danielle Levinson, which culminated in his recent OIG report on SNF antipsychotic use. Dr. Mudannayake was invited to the recent Senate Special Committee on Aging forum on Alzheimer’s disease, based on his work on antipsychotic use and the demented institutionalized elderly Dr. Mudannayake is currently ABIM certified in Geriatric and Internal Medicine and teaches Long Term Care Medicine to Geriatric Fellows and Medical Residents.
