The condition of the oral cavity can impact the overall health and well-being of an individual. Oral health is generally considered poor among residents of long-term care facilities. This session will discuss how oral health and general health are connected and how prescribed medications can have a direct effect on the oral cavity. Basic oral evaluation will be reviewed, as well as when a patient should be referred to a dentist. Attendees will understand the importance of having a clean and healthy mouth in order to optimize the overall well-being of an individual.
