Description

This session will translate the literature into practice guideline to improve identification and management of delirium in the PALTC setting, with a focus on routinely encountered challenges and potential solutions. The emphasis will be on pharmacological and psychosocial interventions. Case vignettes will be used to illustrate management principles and strategies to provide staff and family support and education.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Define delirium, its common synonyms, and its pathophysiology.
  • Use of the Confusion Assessment Method delirium screening tool.
  • Discuss principles of delirium management, including pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.
  • Provide tips to engage and educate the front line staff and the family in the effective management of delirium.
