This session will address global issues in long-term care (LTC) with an opportunity for engagement and interactive discussion with attendees. In this symposium, we will provide a summary of the AMDA international membership survey that will include a high-level overview of LTC from a global perspective, with a focus on funding, legislation, role of the medical director, and training. The symposium also will look at specific clinical issues with a panel of medical directors representing North America (Canada and USA) and Europe (Netherlands, France/Italy/Norway). These leaders will share leading best practices, innovative approaches, and relevant research on four topics clinically relevant globally: dementia care, end-of-life and palliative care, the Choosing Wisely campaign (appropriate prescribing/deprescribing), and antibiotic stewardship.
Compare international approaches to appropriate prescribing/deprescribing and Choosing Wisely campaigns.
Identify controversies in end-of-life care, including medical assistance in dying/euthanasia.
Describe approaches to common clinical issues featuring similarities and differences focusing on end-of-life, dementia and antibiotic stewardship.
