ABPLM Designation Statement: This Internet Enduring Material has been pre-approved by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM) for a total of 1 management hour toward certification as a Certified Medical Director (CMD) in post-acute and long-term care medicine. The CMD program is administered by the ABPLM.  Each physician should claim only those hours of credit actually spent on the activity.

Session Description:
Regulations require each nursing facility to have a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program. Successful programs include the involvement of every member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT). The medical director is responsible for the design and implementation of the program. This session will address the key components of a QAPI program, tools to analyze data, performance improvement projects, and strategies to engage the commitment of IDT members to quality. The presenters are a medical director and quality coordinator with experience in acute, post-acute and long-term care.

  • Explain the regulations related to QAPI in PA/LTC
  • Describe the role of the medical director in the design, implementation and the monitoring of QAPI Program
  • Review the tools for analyzing data with an emphasis on the appropriate use of each tool
  • Discuss the role of the IDT in QAPI
