Session Description: This session will begin with the experiences of George N. Smith, DO, CMD, who was heavily involved in organizing the response to the recent West Texas fertilizer plant explosion. Then, David Dosa, MPH will present current research in disaster preparedness for medical directors, including the data on evacuation versus sheltering in place. David Marcozzi, MD, MHS-CL, FACEP, a former North Carolina volunteer firefighter, Emergency Medicine physician, and is currently the Director of the National Health care Preparedness Programs within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response will speak to the State and Federal role in preparing for and dealing with disasters. The session will conclude with an interactive panel question and answer period.
