This session will review the increasing prevalence of obesity in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), discuss common comorbid medical conditions and the impact on caregivers and facilities, and describe best practices for caring for this challenging population.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the prevalence of obesity in adults in SNFs.
  • Describe common medical, psychiatric, and functional comorbidities for nursing home residents with obesity.
  • Illustrate approaches to evaluating acute and chronic medical problems in the obese resident.
  • Distinguish unique challenges and best practices in caring for obese adults in skilled nursing facilities.
