Description

Join ASCP and AMDA leadership for a panel discussion on the use of opioid analgesics in the PA/LTC settings. Panelists will discuss the challenges to appropriate opioid use and strategies to ensure positive clinical outcomes in older adults. Topics include how regulatory policies may assist or detract from the provision of optimal care and strategies for developing a collaborative team approach with prescribers and consultant pharmacists.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss how collaborative organizational efforts between AMDA and ASCP benefit older adults residing in PA/LTC setting.
  • Describe how existing and newly adopted policies and actions of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) affect the prescribing and use of opioid analgesics in the PA/LTC settings.
  • Identify areas where the medical director and consultant pharmacist can collaborate to ensure appropriate pain management in older adults.
