This session will discuss the evaluation, management, and appropriate treatment for a patient with a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). The pathophysiologic relationship between micro- and macro-vascular impairments, strategies that include prevention, education, a multidisciplinary team approach, and close monitoring will also be discussed.
We will examine the role of early recognition and timely treatment of a high-risk foot to prevent foot ulcers and improve quality of life.
Review the prevalence and incidence of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and briefly describe the pathophysiology of DFU.
Discuss assessment and effective management options in treating DFU.
Describe a multidisciplinary team approach to help achieve limb salvage in a high-risk diabetic foot.
