Description

This session will discuss the evaluation, management, and appropriate treatment for a patient with a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). The pathophysiologic relationship between micro- and macro-vascular impairments, strategies that include prevention, education, a multidisciplinary team approach, and close monitoring will also be discussed.

We will examine the role of early recognition and timely treatment of a high-risk foot to prevent foot ulcers and improve quality of life.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the prevalence and incidence of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and briefly describe the pathophysiology of DFU.
  • Discuss assessment and effective management options in treating DFU.
  • Describe a multidisciplinary team approach to help achieve limb salvage in a high-risk diabetic foot.
