The use of emotional intelligence (EI) is an evolving competency for PA/LTC leaders, interdisciplinary teams, and all stakeholders, but is a concept better appreciated by experiential learning. Accordingly, the presenters will build on last year’s introductory EI session by offering a “Flip the Classroom” hands-on approach to applying emotional intelligence in PA/LTC. While a brief introductory overview and review of EI will be provided, the main emphasis of this session is learner engagement and activation by small group process, role play, and case-based learning. Participants will also have the opportunity to evaluate and better understand their own EI capacity in a safe and supportive environment.
Describe the principal components of EI.
Discuss the value and utility of EI in PA/LTC settings.
Identify barriers to active and effective use of EI in PA/LTC.
Describe "win-win" EI strategies that will enhance PA/ LTC practice.
