Many facilities have little experience in analyzing data in an ongoing time ordered fashion as evidenced by the classic and all too common last month-this month or last quarter-this quarter two-point curve analysis. As data analysis is a major function of the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) mandate from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in regulation, new strategies must be employed to overcome this shortcoming.
This session will teach the learner the use of run charts and control charts with practical examples from real life situations to bring the learner to a higher level of understanding of process in order to be able to ask better process and outcome questions and thereby providing for improved care. Since all work is a process, the lessons learned will be applicable to all processes and work within the facility.
Assimilate variation and time as factors in process analysis.
Develop and utilize run charts to assess process.
Develop and utilize control charts to assess process.
Apply strategies to help the facility QAPI program to use run chart and control charts in their everyday work.
