Session Description: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law March 23, 2010. The Act includes a provision for the establishment of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Many health care providers are unaware of the details of the Act and are uncertain of its implications for long term care. This session will provide an overview of the history of health care reform in the US, describe ACOs and their potential impact on long term care, and identify strategies for physicians and health care providers to deliver quality of care in an ACO environment.

Discuss the goals of Health Care Reform and the implications for long term care.
Explain Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and how they work.
Identify strategies for medical directors, attending physicians and other long term care professionals to assess, coordinate and improve health system’s performance and improve resident’s outcomes.
