Description

This course examines the principles of health maintenance of older adults in the long term care setting. Topics include a review of the unique features of the LTC setting, basic components of prevention, the recognition of health maintenance needs in LTC, special considerations for health maintenance, and a description of the recommendations and the standard of care for health maintenance of older adults in this setting. Participants apply these concepts to the care processes within LTC, and review methods to guide appropriate decision making related to preventive interventions within the LTC setting.

Objectives:
• Delineate the features of preventive health maintenance unique to the LTC setting and their impact on clinical decision making
• Delineate the appropriate preventive health interventions for older adults in the LTC setting
• Describe the current recommendations for health maintenance screening for older adults in the LTC setting
• Develop a plan for ensuring the appropriateness and adequacy of health maintenance for older adults in the LTC setting
