Session Description:
This session will discuss evidence-based recommendations for the care of persons with dementia and intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in the PA/LTC environments. Health promotion, disease prevention, and medical surveillance in this population will be reviewed. Specialized approaches and validated assessment tools will be presented for the screening, diagnosis, and management of dementia in persons with I/DD. Strategies for management of end-of-life care by multidisciplinary teams in this patient sector will be discussed.
