Session Description: This session will provide an introduction to Komyo Reiki Kai, a Japanese style of Reiki. In the long term care continuum, we frequently face situations where complementary options may have less cost and potential harm than pharmacologic options. Reducing anxiety can help patients both in rehabilitation, and also those facing end of life. Reiki is a spiritual approach that can complement conventional techniques. The session will be more highly interactive and participatory than most sessions. Participants will learn techniques to retain inner peace or calm when faced with the most complex situations. Techniques focusing on calm in the moment, are not only be helpful for patients, but can assist physicians themselves in facing the stresses and conflicts of daily practice.
Explain the history, and benefits of applying Reiki as complementary to evidence based practice, and the specific elements that distinguish Komyo Reiki Kai.
Discuss the meaning and implications of the Reiki precepts, as they involve complementing evidence based medicine.
Describe basic concepts such as Gassho, and basic Reiki hand positions (done to self and sitting).
Perform Hatsurei Ho to self for simple personal relaxation and spiritual focus.
