Session Description:
This workshop style session will address the benefits and barriers to opioid use for pain management in long term care. The audience will participate in small groups to practice effective communication techniques around opioid use to address concerns of residents, families, and staff with a particular focus on the fear of hastening death and addiction.

  • Describe benefits and barriers to opioid use in long term care
  • Discuss communications strategies to address concerns around opioids of residents, families and staff.
  • Explain effective communication techniques involved with the utilization of opioids in long term care.
