Session Description:
The growing public focus on quality ratings and reimbursement focus on value-based purchasing, pay-for-performance and other quality incentive programs makes it imperative that organizations start planning for the new MDS 3.0 Quality Measures (QMs) prior to their publication in early 2012. This session will provide an overview of the new QMs and insights that will help guide the process and changes needed to ensure the new outcome rates accurately reflect the care provided. Evaluating the impact on facility quality ratings of significant changes in the measurement tool such as use of resident interviews (pain, mood) and standardized scales (BIMS, PHQ-9) will be discussed.

Learning Objectives(s):

  • Discuss the new set of MDS 3.0 Quality Measures (QMs) that will now drive the Five Star Quality Rating system, pay-for-performance, value-based purchasing and other quality incentive programs.
  • Evaluate the impact of significant changes in the MDS 3.0 resident assessment tool such as the use of resident interviews (pain, mood) and standardized scales (BIMS, PHQ-9) on your facility QMs.
  • Develop a plan in 2011 to implement targeted process changes to ensure new MDS 3.0 quality data published in 2012 accurately reflect your organization's commitment to providing high quality care.
