Session Description:
This session will be anchored by an experienced researcher from the AMDA Foundation Scientific Council who will present remarks on the relationship of individual QI initiatives in long term care to larger research projects that strengthen work across the field. Presentations will be followed by the 2009 AMDA Foundation/Pfizer Quality Improvement Award winners who received grants to implement QI project proposals and the 2010 AMDA Foundation/Evercare® Award winners who received awards for projects that had been internally generated and funded by their nursing facilities. All award winning projects were judged to be feasible on a relatively small budget, provide measurable outcomes and objectives, and be easily replicated at other long term care facilities and organizations to promote best practices.

Learning Objectives(s):

  • Identify quality improvement as both a research activity and faculty based care improvement process
  • Demonstrate how evidence and data collection can involve the IDT in quality improvement activities
  • Describe consistent care process that is the basis for making care improvements

Speakers(s):
2009 AMDA Foundation/Pfizer Quality Improvement Awards winners Madelyn Iris, PhD, Joseph Ouslander MD, Kalpana P. Padala MD, MS, Lene Levy-Storms, PhD, MPH, and winners of the 2010 AMDA Foundation/Evercare® Awards for "Improving the Quality of Life for Persons Living in Nursing Homes" who will be announced in January 2010
