Description

This session is presented by a panel of AMDA and AGS (AGS' SIG on Long-Term Care and Nurses Section) members. The presentation will provide education and expertise regarding a few of the clinical issues found in long term care settings, including medical futility and ethics, increasing functional capabilities of patients through the use of assistive devices, fundamentals of long term care and reconciling medication prescribing and evidence-based practice.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Analyze medication prescribing within the context of age, multiple co-morbidities and evidence-based practice
  • Describe 5 interventions to improve residents' functional capacity and quality of life through use of assistive devices
  • Summarize the responsibilities of long-term care staff in relation to the fundamentals of care in order to achieve quality care
  • Describe the relationship between futile care and ethical medical practice
