C08 - Medicare and Financial Issues for the Long Term Care Physician

Description

This session presents current and proposed mechanisms for physician reimbursement in long term care. The current effects of Medicare A through D, special programs, the RBRVS and RUC systems, and LMC will be reviewed. Evolving issues in long term care physician payment structure will be discussed, including the recent reevaluation of nursing home physician work values, RUC composition and directions, MedPAC and Practicing Physicians Advisory Panel concerns, pay for performance, disease state management programs, the ACP’s medical home model concept, physician quality reporting initiative, comprehensive geriatric assessment and use of mid-level practitioners.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Describe the basic structure of Medicare payment programs for physician payments
  • Discuss how the RVS/RUC system works and how it's evolution may effect the LTC physician
  • Review proposed payment method changes and how they may impact LTC
  • Discuss how proposed medical care models will effect the LTC continuum
