Description

This session presents the results of a recent survey conducted by the University of Pittsburgh that determined the organizational-level and individual-level modifiable barriers to medication error reporting in the long term care. Medical directors and members of the multidisciplinary audience will also be able to use the survey as a tool to collect data on barriers to medication error reporting specific to their own facilities.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize the importance and impact of medication errors in the nursing home setting
  • Describe the most recent data on the barriers to medication error reporting in the nursing home setting
  • Measure and evaluate the barriers to medication error reporting in the participant's own facility using the tools and techniques that will be provided
  • Identify several paper-based and computer-based medication error reporting systems that can be used in the nursing home setting
