Description

This session will focus on palliative care and hospice in long term care facilities. Regulatory myths will be explored, and compared to the realities facing medical directors doing oversight of care teams. The interaction of the nursing home and hospice care planning processes will be explored, in terms of how they impact both patient outcome, and facility outcome in the survey process. This session will demonstrate the importance of implementing AMDA clinical practice guidelines, in minimizing risks and improving results for both patients and facilities. Survey case histories will be presented, and, the audience will be actively engaged in discussing the survey outcomes.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Demonstrate the Regulatory Myths that exist about End of Life Care, and compare them to appropriate Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Dramatize the importance of Nursing Facility and Hospice coordination in care planning, examining how that impacts both patient well being and facility survey outcome
  • Identify how implementation of AMDA Clinical Practice Guidelines can modify and improve Regulatory consequence
