Description

This session covers mental health issues in long term care including: psychotropic medications use and management; differential diagnosis of psychotic disorders in a case-based presentation, and evaluation and management of complex and challenging behaviors in long term care patients using clinical vignettes. Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions will be discussed.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Examine FTAG 329 regulations and documentation requirements; interpret public policy and regulatory initiatives impacting medical directors and attending physicians roles
  • Explain the differential diagnosis of psychotic disorders in older adults and the use of pharmacologic and psychosocial treatments for psychotic disorders
  • Discuss evaluation and management of complex and challenging behaviors in long term care patients using clinical vignettes (sexual aggression, refractory severe aggression, etc)
